A Safe Place to Heal, Be Heard, and Begin Again

Our
Mission
At Ikhaya, our mission is to prevent, identify, and respond to sexual and gender-based violence among children, adolescents, and young people in Zambia.
We provide survivor-centered support including safe shelter, counseling, legal assistance, and community empowerment so every young person can live free from fear and violence.
Safe space
Ikhaya provides confidential, survivor-centered spaces where individuals affected by sexual and gender-based violence can feel protected, heard, and supported.
Our services include emergency shelter, counseling, legal support, and referrals to healthcare and psychosocial services — all delivered with dignity, respect, and compassion.
WHAT WE DO
Impact
Survivor
Support
We provide survivor-centered counseling, safe shelter, and legal support to help individuals heal and regain stability after violence.
Prevention & Education
Ikhaya works with schools and communities to prevent sexual and gender-based violence through education, dialogue, and awareness.
Justice & Advocacy
We support survivors in accessing justice while advocating for stronger systems that protect children and young people.
Community Partnerships
We collaborate with local leaders, health providers, and organizations to strengthen community response and long-term change.
Why Your Support Matters
Survivors often face violence, stigma, and isolation with limited access to safe spaces or support services. Your donation helps Ikhaya respond with dignity, compassion, and survivor-centered care.
Together, we can protect lives, restore hope, and help prevent violence before it happens.
HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS
Transparency & Accountability
Ikhaya is committed to responsible, transparent use of all funds. Donations directly support survivor services, prevention programs, and essential operations that make our work possible.

Moomba Thornicroft
Executive Director
Moomba Mbolongwe Thornicroft is the Founder and Executive Director of A Place Called Home – Ikhaya, a woman-led organization responding to sexual and gender-based violence in Zambia. A trained public health specialist with over 10 years of experience, she has worked extensively with adolescents, communities, and health systems in sexual and reproductive health and GBV response.
Growing up in Zambia, Moomba saw how violence thrives in silence. That reality shaped her commitment to building Ikhaya as a true home — a place of safety, healing, and hope for survivors. Through her leadership, Ikhaya continues to empower young people, strengthen communities, and advocate for a future where dignity and protection are a right, not a privilege.
